Two World War II framed posters plus three Presidential Campaign items from comedian Pat Paulsen’s estate.
Poster 1 – Your Scrap brought it down, Keep Scrapping 1942. This is an original poster issued by the United States War Production Board during World War II to inspire Americans to recycle more scrap materials to be used in production of armaments in support of the war against Germany, Italy and Japan. Text at lower right reads: “Keep Scrapping / Rubber • Metal • Rags / Give to a Collector, Salvage Dept or Sell to a Dealer.” It features artwork by Zudor, and his signature is reproduced in the image at upper right. This poster was issued in two versions with art by different artists.
Condition: This ‘Scrap’ poster has been folded and crease lines are visible. They are most prominent under the word ‘Scrapping’ where light rippling intersects the folds. There are no visible tears. There is a ding on the top of the black wood frame and minor tears appear on the back paper. See photo below. Poster measures 38” x 27″ / Black wood frame measures 45.5” x 34.5”. See photos below.
Poster 2 – Americans will always fight for liberty 1778 1943. This Bernard Perlin 1943 World War II poster, 1778 – 1943, is Office of War Information poster No. 26. War posters were often intended to foster patriotism and confidence. Here, the appeal is a time in our history when the challenges and our response to them could not have been greater.
Desperate, with torn clothing and bloody bandaged feet, the Continental soldiers inspire the well-clothed, helmeted U.S. soldiers in the war at hand. The poster lacks some of the raw, emotional content of many war posters. Instead it aims to recruit, encourage, and motivate.
Condition: This ‘American’s’ poster has been folded and crease lines are visible. There is light rippling that intersects some of the folds. This poster has a mark in the bottom right hand side, like a tape mark or something. Minor tears appear on the back paper. See photo below. Black wood frame is in good shape with minor wear and tear. Poster measures 38” x 27″ / Black wood frame measures 45.5” x 34.5”.
